Mott MacDonald was commissioned by Waste Recycling Group (WRG),
to carry out the civil engineering design of the new fluidised bed
energy-from-waste (EfW) facility to be located at Allington in
Kent. The EfW facility will have an annual capacity of 500,000
tonnes, with a further 25,000 – 65,000 tonnes of sorting and
processing capacity to handle materials suitable for recycling.
Allington energy-from-waste plant
The facility will accept household and commercial/industrial waste
and separately collected materials for recycling.
No hazardous waste will be accepted.
The EfW facility will be capable of generating up to 40MW of power,
the majority of which will be exported to the local electricity
supply network and will help to displace the need to burn fossil
fuels. Remaining energy will be used to power the facility. The
waste management facility represents an investment of well over
£100 million.
