MMB (Mott MacDonald Bentley) undertook construction for the
capping works, for the Waste Recycling Group (WRG), in cells two
and three of the landfill site.
The capping of the landfill site
The principal driver for the scheme was to reduce production of
leachate and extract the methane gas via a gas abstraction
system.
The scope of work included:
- Re-grading and compacting of the final waste levels according
to the Waste Management License and PPC Document
- Excavating, transporting and placing of suitable soils
- Deployment of a LLDPE geomembrane liner, a non-woven needle
punched geocomposite drainage layer, and an anchor trench
perimeter
- Disconnecting and re-connecting of a complex gas pipe work
system to ensure the Environment Agency’s prescribed low gas
pressures were maintained
