Efficiency Savings in Waste Management, DESE Toolkit

Commissioned by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Mott MacDonald undertook a review of waste management contracts for the Greater London Waste Disposal Authorities. The aim was to determine potential savings that could be achieved through the alignment of contracts, economies of scale and improvements in procurement.

The DESE Toolkit can identify a variety of efficiency savings in waste managementThe computer-based DESE Toolkit can identify a variety of efficiency savings in waste managementThe exercise also involved the development of Defra Environmental Services Efficiencies Toolkit (DESE) for Waste Authorities. The toolkit is available on the Defra website and enables all authorities to calculate potential efficiency savings wihtin their waste management service for inclusion in their Annual Efficiency Statement (AES).





Its aim was the quantitative assessment of their procurement practices and assistance in their decision making, in order to achieve efficiency savings.
